Room Challenge: In the beginning…

Welcome guys and girls to my very first post about the Sims 4 on the My Inner Sim blog.

I was sitting, wondering where on earth to start with my posts when I came across a page on the Sims Community website about The Sims 4 challenges and thought to myself, why not, I’ll just dive straight into the deep end!

Somehow, in my many years of playing The Sims, I completely missed the fact that such things existed and after having a good look through a list of the various Sims 4 challenges I decided that my first post is going to be a story based around a challenge.

I have chosen the Room Challenge which can be found under “Control 1 Sim Challenges”. For anyone unfamiliar with this challenge, in short, the aim is to create an 8 x 8 block house on an empty plot, or any shape you wish so long as it comprises of no more than 64 tiles. Upon moving your sim into the house you will then remove the door, thus confining them to live in solitude within the room.

The main goal of the challenge is to achieve the Mansion Baron aspiration, without being able to leave the house, go to work or even socialise with other Sims. For the full rules visit the sims community website.

The challenge has a scoring system with the aim to score as many points as possible. You lose points for various things such as the length of time to complete the challenge, reaching a critical social level and for being unable to pay your sims bills. You gain points by reaching the maximum level in a skill and for completing aspiration stages. I’m unsure yet, whether to follow the points scoring system but I will keep track of them just in case.

So now that we understand a bit more about the challenge in question, it’s time to meet my sim and begin her journey.

Meet Lola Wolfe, a young budding entrepreneur, torn between her passion for painting and her one true love of all things geek!

Lola’s life aspiration is to be rich but she has always hated the hard slog of daily work life, working for companies to further their wealth, so she has decided to take her savings and make a new life in Windenburg, starting with merely the clothes on her back and the §20,000 her father left her in a will.

With limited funds she knows she has to start small and the road ahead will be very long, but with some hard work and determination, she knows she can succeed.

She begins by building a small house, buying only the essentials to survive. If she’s going to succeed she’s going to have to be frugal for as long as she can. She opts to take up gardening and purchases several indoor plant pots, which should help provide the food she needs. If only she had listened to her grandparents when they tried to teach her how to grow and nurture plants.

Her house is now built and ready to move in. As she takes out her keys and steps through the front door the strangest thing happens! Upon turning around, the door is nowhere to be seen. The windows are locked and she has no way of leaving!

Where's the door?!

How will she survive…? Check back next week to find out more about Lola and whether she can withstand her first week in solitude.

  1. Good luck! I just completed the room challenge. It’s a lot of fun. There’s a list of challenges on the sims forums too and peeps are always talking about new ones on Twitter.

      1. At least you picked a fairly short challenge for your first. I did a legacy then a 100 baby challenge, lol. If you have questions about wordpress you can find me on twitter.

      2. Haha, yes I did choose it wisely. I found another room challenge somewhere else which was 5×5 and thought that was a bit small, maybe next time 🙂
Thank you, I really appreciate it 🙂

  2. Good luck! Wow, I guess gardening is a good way to go since she can talk to plants. Keeping the social up would be hard. How much did you have left after you built your house? Which city and lot are you on? This is going to be quite the challenge!

    1. Yes doing the gardening skill straight away is definitely the way to go 🙂 I have managed to avoid losing points for hitting critical in the social need. Although, I maybe wouldn’t choose to start with the gardening aspiration first, next time.
I tried not to spend all my money straight away so that I didn’t run out of money, I think I had about 9,000 simoleons left. It also kept my bills low.
I’m in Windenburg on the Mid-Nowhere lot.
I’m so pleased you liked my post 🙂
