Alice awoke bright and early, at 6am the next morning to find Jamie wasn’t in bed, but she could hear voices downstairs. She pulled the covers back, rolled out of bed and wandered downstairs and found Jamie and Shingo, sat in the living room, watching television together. How cute!
When Shingo realised that Alice was awake, he wandered over to her looking sad. When she asked him what was wrong, she realised that he wanted to go for a walk.
She told him as soon as she was ready they would go out for a walk, but he just looked at her with a puzzled expression. Alice then headed into the kitchen and made a start on breakfast.
When the food was ready, she called Jamie over and they both sat down at the dining table to eat.
She was really starting to enjoy having him around the house more, especially now that he could stay the night.
When they were finished eating breakfast, Jamie got ready and left and then Alice headed to the bathroom, but before she could take a shower she realised it needed repairing.
Just as she was finishing mopping up the mess on the bathroom floor, the gardener sent her a message to say she that she didn’t have enough money to pay him and that he wouldn’t be returning until she settled the bill.
She had completely forgotten about saving some money to pay him. She’d gotten a little carried away with the renovations, but she’d just been so excited to expand the house.
After she had finished showering, she got dressed and headed outside to harvest the garden and noticed that the little Cowberry that she’d planted the day before had now become a tiny little cow plant. She thought it looked adorable.
When the harvesting was done, Alice sold some of the items and paid her bill and then called Shingo over. She put on his collar and they both set off on their walk.
They started on their usual route, walking around the pond and as they got closer, Alice spotted two rocks to dig and a dirt pile. She couldn’t resist collecting the items so she encouraged Shingo to dig the dirt whilst she dug up the rocks.
This is how she’d started out her runaway adventure, digging rocks and scavenging for items; how times had changed. Now she could do it for fun and she even had a companion to share in the experience.
As Alice was just finishing digging the second rock a guy called Salim came over to talk to her.
They hit it off straight away and stood and talked for a while. She asked him about his day and gave him a heartfelt compliment and they soon became friends, but then Alice realised Shingo was getting hungry so she said goodbye to Salim and they carried on their way.
Alice was feeling a little restless from not exercising much, so they jogged the rest of the way home.
They arrived home in no time and after taking Shingo’s leash and collar off, she went into the kitchen, checked that his bowl had some food in it and called him over to eat. He ran over straight away and devoured the food quickly.
Now that the tasks of the day were complete, Alice took her mobile phone out of her pocket and sat down to ring the career line; she couldn’t put off choosing a career, any longer.
After much deliberation, she decided the best career for her would be the Scientist Career.
Thankfully they told her that she didn’t actually have to start work until the following day, so she had a little more time to prepare herself.
She had noticed on the way back that the rest of the plants were ready to harvest, so she headed outside and when she stepped out of the front door she got the biggest shock of her life.
The little cow plant, that she’d only passed moments before, was now a huge, monstrous looking beast! She couldn’t believe her eyes and even blinked a couple of times in hopes that she was just seeing things, but she wasn’t.
Moments later, Shingo walked outside and went to sleep near the planters and it suddenly dawned on her that she had to get rid of this plant somehow; if that’s what you could call it.
She quickly sold it and at least it wasn’t all bad, she got §450 for it and now she knew that Shingo would be safe.
She finished harvesting the rest of the garden produce and then headed inside to make dinner and after finishing her meal, she decided it was time to give Shingo a bath. She wanted to give him a bit of pampering before she started the long hours at work.
She was really excited for the next day, but she was also really worried about Shingo and how he would cope with her being out of the house five days a week. He really did require a lot of time and attention; if only there was a doggy daycare that you could send pets too, at least then she wouldn’t have to worry about him as much.
After Shingo was bathed and looking all cute, again, Alice spent some time playing with him and gave him lots of attention.
It was finally time for bed, so Alice headed upstairs, climbed into bed and went to sleep.
Tomorrow was going to be a very busy day, indeed, and she needed all the rest she could get.
Previous: Chapter 21 – Renovation Time
For a moment, when I was writing this chapter, I thought it was going to be too short, but I really wanted to start her new job in a new chapter, rather than starting it in this one. Thankfully, it turned out just right.
When Alice went to bed, Shingo went to sleep on the sofa despite having a lovely bed nearby…
How do I stop him doing this? Is it just by encouraging him to go to sleep on his bed? I tried to make Grace lecture Toby for doing this in my Paws for Thought Let’s Play series on Youtube, but it’s not an option. So odd.
So, Alice’s new job starts in the next chapter. I’m sorry it took me so long to choose, but I was undecided whether to go with a job that utilises her skills, like gardening and collecting, or whether to go a whole different route and make her join the police career. She’d suffered as a child with how her brother had been so mean to her and she wanted to put bad people in jail lol
But I decided the science career was the best choice because she had no education and at least it made more sense with the collecting and stuff.
